Norma Jean Lenhart
TAMA-Norma Jean Lenhart, 91, of Tama, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Premier Estates of Toledo. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Norma was born on November 22, 1929, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Kesselring) Suchanek.
She attended Columbia #7 School and graduated in 1948 from Tama High School. Norma then attended Erta College in Omaha, NE.
On August 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lester Lenhart at the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama. Norma had formerly worked at the Tama State Bank and Bethesda Care Center in Toledo. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama where she was active in the Lydia Circle. Norma was formerly a member of the Tama County Historical Society, the Oak Hill Cemetery Association and was on the Mobile Meals board. She volunteered at the Tama County Museum and the Tama Food Pantry. Norma enjoyed gardening, making quilts, and writing poetry, and traveling.
Survivors include one son, Larry (LynnAnn) Lenhart of Kearney, MO; one daughter, Marsha (Dean) Benda of Round Rock, TX; two grandchildren, Nikki (Tom) McElwee of Odessa, MO, and Reid (Michaela) Lenhart of Shawnee, KS; four great-grandchildren, Sadie Jo, Fiona, and Killian McElwee, and Jayce Lenhart; and one step-great-granddaughter, Emma McElwee.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lester on January 4, 2013; and one sister, Evelyn Suchanek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.
