Garry Davenport Sr.

Garry Davenport Sr., 76, of Tama, passed away Saturday August 7, 2021 at his home on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, August 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Mike Keahna as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Sunday evening at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.
Garry was born on September 11, 1944, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Bertha (Blackcloud) Davenport Sr.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Garry loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play football while drinking his coke and eating his popcorn. He enjoyed going to the Meskwaki Senior Center to play Bone Dice. He always had a hug, handshake or a stick of gum for everyone he met.
Survivors include his sons, Garrick “Munch” Davenport (Laurie), Garren “Kawa” Davenport (Jessica), Dustin “Pies” Jefferson (Kerry); daughters, Garika “Hash” Pesina (Victor), Sahara “Miss” William (Al), Jeanine Davenport, and Jolene Davenport; brother, Harvey Davenport Jr. (Ardelia); adopted children, Sophilia Keahna, and Virgil Lasley; adopted sisters, Iris Roberts, and Dona Youngbear; sixteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Geraldine Davenport; son, Garry Davenport Jr., grandson, Sylvester Davenport; sisters, Rosemary Wanatee, Norma Davenport, Eva Davenport, Laura Kapayou, and Rae Ann Green.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
