Douglas Custer

Douglas Charles Custer (74) Laughlin, NV formerly of Tama, IA passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 10, 2021. His wishes were that his body be donated to Science Care. As per his wishes there will be no funeral service or celebration of life event. Doug was born July 6, 1947 to Kenneth W. and Emily J. (Krezek) Custer. He grew up in Tama, IA where he attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School through 1961 and then graduated from South Tama High School in the class of 1965. After high school he attended the University of Iowa. He returned to Tama and worked as a parts counter specialist for the family business Custer Implement & Hardware. After the business closed in November 1985 Doug worked for Teleconnect and McLeod phone directory. Eventually, he followed and cared for his parents moving to the Bullhead City, AZ / Laughlin, NV area. Mastering his skills at Blackjack, Roulette, and Craps, he enjoyed working at the Colorado Belle and Ramada/Tropicana Casinos in Laughlin, NV. He and Kenneth W. were the first father-son team of Blackjack dealers to be hired by the Colorado Belle Casino. Doug enjoyed spending time outdoors on the Colorado River in his free time. He was a major sports enthusiast and an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Iowa Hawkeyes (Tama County I-Club member), and especially the Dallas Cowboys. Doug is a proud supporter and owner of a brick in the current Dallas Cowboys Stadium which bears his name. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Kenneth J. “KJ” (Judith Cox) Custer of Fairfield, IA; his sister Sally Custer of Toledo, IA; and his sister Sharon (Greg) Baughman of Inver Grove Heights, MN; nieces Lisa (Custer) Hilton of Solon, IA; Stephanie (Matt) Babinat of Toledo, IA; Keely (Corey) Upah of Chelsea, IA; and nephews Ryan (Julie Smith) Baughman of Eagan, MN and Curtis (Amy) Baughman of Inver Grove Heights, MN and 10 great nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth W. and Emily J. Custer.
