Janice Goettsch

Janice Storjohann- Goettsch, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of July 6, 2024 at UnityPoint Health Marshalltown.

A visitation for Janice will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held immediately following visitation at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorials in Janice’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Janice Louise Richards was born January 14, 1937 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital. She was the youngest of three children born to Russell and Laura (Shaver) Richards. Janice grew up in Montour and attended school in Montour where she graduated with the Class of 1955.

On September 28, 1958, she was united in marriage to Gene Storjohann. From this union they had three children, Dietta, Mark, and David. They began their married lives in Gladbrook, Iowa until moving to Marshalltown in 1966. In early years she worked as a telephone switchboard operator but additionally worked for Montgomery Ward and with Fisher Controls and the Marshalltown Hospital. She and Gene divorced in October of 1977.

In her free time, Janice was the family storyteller and historian. She loved to share memories and learn more about her family history. She enjoyed always going to Northeast Iowa for trips to the Iowa River always taking a new route each year. Additionally in free time, Janice worked on word search puzzles, traveling when she was able to do so her favorite trip being a helicopter ride over the great smoky mountains. She liked to play cribbage and teach her friends bar bingo. In younger years, Janice liked being able to go out and ride horses. Most importantly she loves spending time with her family and extended family.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Mark Storjohann and David Storjohann; her grandchildren, Amy Stotts, Michelle Fiscus, Travis (April) Storjohann, Amber Storjohann, Whitney Metcalf and Ryan Stotts; her great-grandchildren, Lillian Stotts and Kaiden Metcalf; and nieces and nephews, Arlo Richards, Allan Richards, Bruce Richards, Shelly Richards, and Brian Richards.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dietta Fiscus; her parents Russell and Laura Richards; her brother Eldon Richards, and her sister in infancy, Vivian Richards; her grandson Casey Jay Metcalf; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Storjohann.
