Marlene Dolezal

Marlene K. Dolezal (Ferriss), aged 88, passed away on July 5, 2024, at Unity Point Hospital in Marshalltown, IA.
She was born to Warren and Ruth (Spinler) Ferriss on Feb 1, 1936 and spent her childhood in Toledo, IA where she also attended school. In 1955 she married Hubert Dolezal at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, making their home in rural Tama. No stranger to hard work, she helped around the farm with baling hay, taking care of livestock and unloading grain in the fall. She devoted many hours to gardening and canning to help nourish her family.
In her free time, Marlene enjoyed cross stitch and making doll clothes and stuffed animals for her grandchildren. Family and friends will also remember her passion for creating personalized, humorous greetings cards for all occasions as well as the many seed plaques she made for others. Recognized for her outstanding cooking and baking, each holiday she would come armed with a plate of artfully decorated sugar cookies. She also was in charge of the bulletin board and other decorations at the Senior Center for many years.
Marlene will be remembered for her creative spirit, humorous nature, and her selfless contributions to her family. Her spunk and sarcasm she was proud to pass down to her children and grandchildren as well.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 8 brothers and sisters, and one grandchild. She is survived by her daughter Connie (Randy) Zimmermann, son James (Penny) Dolezal, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Per her wishes, her family chooses to honor her memory privately.
