Steven Slagle

TOLEDO-Steven Craig Slagle, 76, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the VFW Hall in Tama.

Steven was born on January 30, 1948, to William and Marlys (Walls) Slagle in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Steven served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Steven married Nickey Brandt and they were blessed with a daughter, Shannon. They later divorced. He married Tylaine Plum and had Tara and Steven Slagle, they later divorced. On June 2, 2005, he married Teresa Cakerice and her son Adam Shortley. Steven retired after 30 years from the Tama Paper Mill.

Steven was a member of the VFW and was active in their events. He enjoyed fishing and boating. He was a “jack of all trades”. His family will always remember the phrase, “Big Time”.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Slagle of Toledo; children, Shannon (Nathan) Hoffman of Marengo, Tara Slagle of Tama, Steven (Darlene) Slagle of Marshalltown and Adam (Kelsey) Shortley of Elkhart, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Joshua, Macy, Elise, Ariana, Lance, Evan, Amara, Rhett, Jayde, and Koda; sister, Pam (Ron) Horbach of Garland, Texas and brother, Jeff (Ronee) Slagle of Tama.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
