Mark Fetter
TOLEDO-Mark Timothy Fetter, 71, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 3, 2024 in Tama, while doing one of his favorite things, golfing. Visitation and Celebration of Mark’s life will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. There will be a time of sharing following the Visitation at 7 PM that evening.
Mark was born on September 18, 1953 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elaine (Novak) Fetter.
He graduated from South Tama High School in the Class of 1972, and then went on to graduate from the University of Iowa.
On January 27, 1973, he was united in marriage to Diana Quigley at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.
In 2018, Mark was inducted into the Iowa High School Football Hall of Fame. He was a 2-time All-State Choice as a running back/linebacker. He led the STC Trojans Football team to an 8-0 campaign his Senior year, and was recruited nationwide as one of the top ranked running backs in the country. He committed to play at the University of Iowa where he rushed for over 1,000 yards in his career and was a four-year letter winner (an honor that hadn’t been awarded in 21 years). Mark also went on to play semi-pro football for several years after graduation. He was a member of the Iowa Letterman’s Club. Mark was instrumental in coordinating the transformation of the high school track.
Mark was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama where he was active in the Knights of Columbus, and the Tama-Toledo Country Club. He was a Fiscal Officer in the Accounting Department for the Meskwaki Tribe. Later he worked for the Department of Alternative Energies for the State of Iowa, retiring from there. He enjoyed golfing, biking, running, basketball and lifting weights. Anything that was a challenge, was his “cup of tea”. He was active in his winter home activities in Florida and was on the Board of the Condominium Association. Mark was proud to be a Trump supporter. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and friends.
