Lorraine Keahna

TAMA-Lorraine Keahna “Niadi”, 84, of Tama, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024 at her Wikiup (home) on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Thursday evening, October 31, 2024 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Lorraine was born on September 25, 1940, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Columbus and Esther (Youngbear) Keahna.

She graduated from Waller High School in Chicago, IL.

Lorraine’s hobbies included dancing, Powwows, sewing and going to the casino. She enjoyed watching the TV series, Resurrection Dirilis Ertugrul. Lorriane also enjoyed traveling, especially going to Chicago. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Shawn (Wilmer) Fox, Millie Thompson, Charlotte (Miguel) Keahna-Nunez, Jeanine Davenport, Jolene Davenport, and Diahann Wanatee; sons, Galan Thompson, Myron Wanatee, and John Papakee; sisters, Martha Freeman, Karen Old Bear, and Bernadine Lasley; thirty-eight grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three cats; and five dogs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; children, Troy Keahna, Michelle Thompson, and Joseph Thompson; granddaughters, Lorna Wanatee and Peyton Papakee; sisters, Charlotte Tsthlekai, Ruby Funmaker, Barbara Keahna, Lois Davenport, and Frances Blackcloud; brothers, Dennis Keahna Sr., Jimmie Ward, and Ernie Running; and several nieces and nephews.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
