TAMA-Barbara Lucille “Barb” See, age 88, of Tama, was born on May 14, 1936, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Paul and Lucille Pauline Kriegel Heishman and passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Barb grew up on a farm north of Malcom and east of the Sheridan store. She went to school in a one-room school house for many years. Barb’s dad would take her and the area kids to school on a horse drawn wagon when the snow was too deep for them to walk. Her family later moved to Grinnell where she graduated from Grinnell High School.

Barb enjoyed roller-skating at the skating rink in Tama where she met Butch See. On September 17, 1955, she was united in marriage to Harry “Butch” See. They raised three children and later divorced.

Barb was previously employed at a café in Tama, Marshalltown Manufacturing, Tama High School, Tama Paper Mill, and Jeld-Wen in Grinnell, Iowa and most of all – a mom. Barb’s love was her family. She loved spending time with her grand-children and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed one of their events. Barb was extremely proud of her family’s accomplishments.

She loved traveling. Her dream was to go to Disney World. In 2023, Angie and her family took Barb to Disney World. She had the time of her life.

Christmas was her most loved holiday. To her, it was a time for giving. She loved to give gifts to her family and enjoy spending time with them. Barb loved animals, and it didn’t matter what kind of animals. She loved them all. Barb and Butch raised two pigs for slaughter, and she named them. She would feed all the neighborhood pets and wildlife. Barb loved to dance. She taught her kids how to polka, waltz, and two-step in the kitchen of her home.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Harry “Butch” See; one brother, Ronald Heishman; and two sisters, Anna-Mae Mintle and Kay Evans.

Barb is survived by her son, Rod (Karen) See of Reinbeck, two daughters, Angie (Kevin) Bair of Tama, and Jody (Chad) Christensen of Union; seven grandchildren, Katie, Derek, Chelsea, Cody, Chase, Logan, and Madison; twelve great-grandchildren, Teagan, Daxten, Blake, Charlotte, Jayde, Evylen, Kayson, Allison, Kayvn, Laedynn, Kolson, and Kyrenn; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Snickers.

A memorial fund will be established.
