Julia Benda
ELBERON-Julia Mary Benda, 104, of Elberon, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael McAndrew as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Julia was born on September 28, 1920, in Toledo Township, the daughter of William and Mary (Zmolek) Husak.
She attended country school in the Toledo Township area and helped her parents on the farm.On October 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Joseph Benda at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama. The couple started farming in rural Vining. Julia enjoyed helping Joe on the farm with all the animals and other farm work. She also enjoyed raising chickens, sheep, her garden, flowers, and mowing the lawn. Julia really liked being outside. Her indoor hobbies included crocheting, and sewing in the winter. Julia’s greatest joy was her family.
Julia was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, CCW, and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Leonard) Albright of Tama; granddaughters, Rachelle Albright, Tamra Albright (Jay Johnson), and Kim Albright (Ben Welsch); great grandchildren, Levi Williams (Jenna Teberg), Lexi (Austin) Hicks, Sarah Beauregard (Luke Severson), Kenna Williams, Tyler Ungs, Caden Ungs, and Declan Welsch; great-great granddaughters, Addison, Isla, and a new baby girl in April; brother, Peter (Marilyn) Husak of North Liberty; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Husak of Toledo, and Marge Husak of Grinnell; many nieces and nephews; and friends at Premier Estates of Toledo.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joe Benda on April 19, 1984; brothers, Charles, Paul, John, Emil, William, and baby brother, Adolph; and sister, Phyllis (Sister Philomena).
