ELBERON-Margaret Jean “Peg” Dvorak, 86, of Elberon, passed away Thursday, December 26th following a brief illness surrounded by her family at the Keystone Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael McAndrew as the officiant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Peg was born June 5, 1938, in Clutier, the daughter of John and Katie (Linder) Sienknecht. She graduated from Clutier High School with the Class of 1955. On April 19, 1958, she married the love of her life, David Dvorak, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier. Peg was a stay-at-home mom raising the four kids, she also taught catechism classes, was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and worked at the Post Office part time. She belonged to the Circle of Saints Catholic Church in Chelsea.
Peg's biggest joys were spending time and making memories with family. She enjoyed working outside in the many flower gardens in the yard raising hostas, lilies, yellow peonies and every vegetable possible in the garden. Peg enjoyed canning tomatoes, pickles, corn and green beans. She was an amazing seamstress making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, Christmas stockings, quilts and many of the kid’s clothing. Peg was a wonderful cook and mastered making kolaches, kuchen and rohliky despite her German heritage.
Peg is survived by her children, Doug (Kelly) Dvorak of Walford, Diane (Joe) Losch of Cedar Rapids, Dan (Diane) Dvorak of Iowa City, and Denise Dvorak of Garwin; her grandchildren that she adored greatly, Nate Dvorak, Tara Meade, Abbey Losch, Ashley (Sam) Weller, Tyler Meade, Megan (AJ) Smith and Tyler (Melissa) Dvorak; and great-grandchildren, Kenley, Kya and Kamden Smith, Cooper and Wyatt Dvorak and Aria Weller. She is also survived by her sister, Rosie Welton; sister in laws, Pauline Sienknecht and Gracie (Kent) Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She is welcomed into heaven by her husband, David; her parents; brothers, Lyle, Leslie, John, Jim, Ralph and Bill Sienknecht; sisters-in-law, Irene, Thelma and Pauline Sienknecht, Ann O’Connor, Barbara Dvorak; brothers-in-law, Lucky Welton, Dick O’Connor, Eugene Dvorak, Fred Dvorak; half-sisters, Violetta and Ada; and half-brother, Lorenz.
A memorial fund will be established.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Keystone Care Center for their wonderful care of their mom.
