Ambrose Kearney

GARWIN-Ambrose Norman Kearney, 86, of Garwin, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2025 from 4-7 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 3:30 PM.
Ambrose was born on January 4, 1939, at home, on the farm, in Clutier, Iowa, the son of Ambrose and Bernadine (Doran) Kearney.
He graduated from Clutier High School.
On October 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Karen Reisinger in Clutier, Iowa. Ambrose farmed and drove truck his entire working life. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Ambrose belonged to the Ridge Riders Saddle Club and the Iowa Men’s Barrel Racing Association. He loved his horses. Ambrose was also a member of the Central Iowa Snowmobile Association. He enjoyed going to car races and watching Iowa State Basketball and Football. Ambrose was an excellent mechanic and was able to fix anything. Ambrose and Karen loved to go to any family or friends’ event or just to visit.
Survivors include his children, Lorie (Rick) Raymond of Garwin, Connie (Barry) Donovan of Toledo, and Todd Kearney of Gladbrook; grandchildren, Brittany Raymond (Grant Grimmett), Wade (Stacy) Raymond, Trevor (Mallory) Rohach, Chelsea Clark, and Dallas (Katie) Donovan; great-grandchildren, Bear Grimmett, Knox and Briggs Raymond, Jackson and Travis Rohach, Ty Clark and Dani Donovan; sisters, Kathryn Kunch of Garwin, and Mary Jo (Ron) Brandt of Clutier; sister and brother-in-law, Sandy (Bob) Wyllie; sister-in-law, Diane Kearney; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Karen; son, Terry Kearney; grandson, Trent Rohach; great-granddaughter, Leti Raymond; sisters, Bernadine Schuett, and Jane Svoboda; brother, Daniel Kearney; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Reisinger, George Kunch, Harold Schuett, and Stanley Svoboda.
A memorial fund will be established.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
