Letter to the Editor: Supporting Luke Dvorak for sheriff
I am a retired Tama County Detective and I am writing to show my support for Luke Dvorak for Tama County Sheriff. I worked at the Sheriff’s office for 19 years, as a patrol Deputy, Narcotics Agent, and a Detective.
I watched Luke grow as a Deputy and Investigator from his first day on the job. He is not a self promoter, he just flat out gets things done the right way.
Luke is the only candidate emphasizing the Sheriff’s role in protecting our 2nd Amendment rights, and protecting Tama County citizens from Federal overreach.
Luke is highly capable to do the job of Sheriff, and brings unmatched leadership and work ethic to fulfill the standard set by Sheriff Kucera.
Luke is a workhorse not a show pony, and if you vote for him you are voting for a solid foundation for Tama County to build on in the future.
We are seeing the positive buzz words being used by Luke’s opponents in this campaign. Transparency, accountability, community involvement. All important concepts but very symbolic and shallow promises. I would submit that we already have that in the current administration, and if we don’t the words being presented offer no proposed actions to improve things. Symbolism.
Luke is offering substance. You will already have what’s being promised by the others, and Luke is bringing more to the table. His first stated objective is to seek grant funds to offer an armed school resource officer to the 2 schools served by Tama County. That would be GMG and North Tama. As a certified trainer of schools to prepare for active shooter incidents, Luke understands the importance of that presence in our schools besides the positive relationship developed between the officers and youth.
As a highly experienced narcotics officer, Luke understands the flow of drugs coming from the border into this area better than anyone in our Sheriff’s Office. He is the best equipped from an experience perspective to lead Tama County and make it a harder target for methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other dangerous drugs.
A perfect example of what Luke Dvorak brings to the position is this simple point. Luke recently had an accident that seriously injured his eye. For a while there was some question as to whether it would recover full vision or not. Many people in that position would have taken the easy way out. You see, a person in his position could have easily milked this injury for disability benefits for the rest of his life. What did Luke do? He trained himself to shoot with his other eye. In fact he shoots better with his other eye than most do with thier strong eye. Then what happened? Well fortunately things went his way and his injured eye fully recovered.
So what does that tell us about Luke Dvorak’s ability to lead others by example? When Luke could have taken the easy way out, he instead did what Luke always does. He believed in himself, worked hard doing the right thing instead of the easy thing. At the end of it he actually came out of a bad situation better (he can now shoot with both eyes) by not taking the easy way out, by not feeling sorry for himself, and by not losing FAITH.
Join me in protecting our 2nd amendment rights by voting for a Sheriff who knows and embraces his role as a strong line of defense from Federal overreach. Join me in voting for a Sheriff who always does the right thing.
Join me in voting for Luke Dvorak June 4th.
