Letter to the Editor: Praying for the Satanists

I am writing this in response to the newspaper article about the events on the Tama County Courthouse lawn on September 16 and 17. First of all, I am thankful to Adam Todd and the group that assembled to read the Bible, the Holy Bible, God’s true word. According to the newspaper article, it seemed they were convening in a peaceful manner, not as a public display that would have required permission from the city of Toledo, but just a group to read the Bible in close proximity to the satanic worshipers. Thank you!

I was not present at the courthouse lawn, but as I read the newspaper article, I thought to myself that had I been there, I would have approached the satanic worshipers, fully clothed in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-12 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.) to extend true love, just as Jesus did when he lived on this earth, and still does to us today. Jesus said, love your enemies (Matthew 5:44), pray for your enemies. Satan is God’s enemy. Extending love to those who worship Satan, according to Jesus, is to share with them the truth, not to welcome and affirm their existence or rights. Jesus came to earth, died on the cross, paying the price for our sins, to give us eternal life with God. This is what I wish would have been shared with the satanic worshipers, and we must share with all peoples in this world.

I would also ask the satanic worshipers, why? Why do you worship Satan? Satan loves to deceive people, he loves sin, he hates God. He desires to destroy all that is good. Why? Why do you worship him? (John 10:10, John 8:44, Matthew 16:23, Genesis 3.)

There are many more verses in the Bible, describing Satan. And, more important , describing our loving, sovereign God. I believe the Bible. I have read it and studied it, which I will continue to do for the remainder of my earthly life. I have experienced God’s love and mercy. I believe God is our Creator, and he is the one worthy of worship. I will pray for God’s enemy, our enemies-those who worship Satan. Praying that they will hear and believe the word of God and turn to the one true Savior, Jesus Christ.
