Things I should know by now

John Sheda

Well, it finally happened. My official invitation to my 50th High School Graduation Reunion at good ol’ South Tama. The Class of ’69. Next July 5th and 6th the greatest class to ever graduate from South Tama will converge on the twin cities of Tama/Toledo. The diets officially start now that the invitation has been received. Sit-ups, push-ups, eating right and maybe even some, er, ah……….jogging begins. Upon graduation I believe I was 6’1” tall and weighed in at a strapping 170 pounds or so. Now, you ask?? Well, let’s just say I’m still pretty much the same height. Ok, ok…….enough of that. After fifty years, plus the 17 years when I graduated, “I Should Have Known Some Things By Now” don’t you think? Let’s see…………..

Over the years I’ve come to know that it’s OK to be different. In fact, it’s kinda fun.

Everyone’s going through some kind of battle or struggle. Be careful about judging them by what you are seeing at the moment.

Don’t ever, never think you’re the smartest one in the room or the best poker player at the table.

Don’t beat yourself up too badly when you fail or screw up. Heck, most home run hitters in baseball were also strike-out kings.

Learn to enjoy what you have and stop complaining about the things you don’t have.

It’s a fact of life that there are a whole lot of things that just are out of your control. Deal with it and make the best of it. (The Iowa weather this year for example).

Life, (as many of you know), can completely change in a second. And you may never be ready for it.

Just about everything will work if you unplug it and plug it back in. This includes you.

The mystery of “Grace” is a most wonderful and powerful thing.

We’re all doing pretty darn good for what we’ve all been through. Give yourself a nice pat on the back every now and then

Wow! My 50th High School Graduation. The class of 1969. I remember back then my cell phone wasn’t very good, the Internet would fade in and out it seemed and my GPS system on my car was actually located in the glove compartment.

Maybe some of my fellow class mates or anyone will contact me at 319.327.4640 or email me at livingwater@indytel.com. Can’t remember if I even had an email address back then!!
