Just Jonathan: ‘Tis the season
Halfway through November means only one thing, IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME! While I am excited, many around me and online seem to be waiting to decorate and holding off on their bit of holiday cheer.
In the last week I erected our Christmas tree, spent way too much money on wall decor, and cracked open my first carton of eggnog. In a similar fashion, many people are starting to hang up their Christmas lights for the season and some inflatables have come into view. Without a doubt this is my favorite time of the year.
While texting friend and fellow correspondent Mike, he very quickly noticed a Christmas tree in the background as I sent a picture of his book in my lap. Ignoring all praise, Mike’s response was about how early the tree had been set up. With a laugh I knew what had to be done.
The seeds of doubt have been planted. As someone who doesn’t take well to orthodoxy, I doubled down and began my official decorating.
During my decorating spree around my room, I pulled out my inner elementary school teacher and decided to decorate the outside of our door. With a bit of wrapping paper and some nice Christmas images acquired from the dollar store, our bland wood door is now bright red and festive.
Remember those wall decorations I spent way too much money on? You can bet they have been placed and positioned. Tinsel draped over the TV and plenty of Santa figurines tucked around.
By the time this column reaches you, I hope you’ve eaten a cookie or two, listened to your favorite holiday music, and felt the Christmas spirit. At the end of the day, I’m just Jonathan and I endorse mid-November decorating.
