Just Jonathan: Thinking Thankfully

Jonathan Meyer

Oh it’s the most thankful time of the year, I think the song goes like that anyway. With this week being one full of thankfulness, family, and friends, it’s the right time to share some things I am thankful for.

To start out, I am so very thankful for our newspaper. Oh course the guy who writes for the paper is thankful. Looking past that, the fact we have a source for news still available to our community is a privilege that some do not have.

I am thankful that our school district continues to fight for our students. We have dedicated teachers who care that all students at STC have access to and receive a quality education. Our community is blessed with some of the best.

I am thankful for our community of passionate individuals. All across the board we have people with vigor. I have friends who run, lift weights, dance at powwows, serve our country, volunteer, make music, pursue higher education, explore the world, and so many other wonderful things.

I am thankful for the diversity of our community. Seeing more of the world as I have gotten older has been so much easier with a built in respect that growing up in Tama lent me. Being aware of differences in culture and celebrating what beautiful things come with them is a blessing. Although things aren’t ever perfect, being able to experience more is great.

I am thankful for my parents who have let me travel through life with relative freedom. Although my path has been different than others I have never felt any less supported. Having a family that believes in me and allows me to follow my interests is valuable beyond belief.

Of course I’ll throw in that I am thankful for my sister. Spending some time together and having dinner is not always how I envisioned our relationship as adults but boy do I enjoy our time. I am proud of who you have become and will always be in your corner, ready to buy dinner or protect you from any of the boys trying to date you.

I hope this week has been one filled with joy and a touch of reflection. Looking back and appreciating what we have makes moving forward so much easier. I hope you enjoy this cold time of year and spend a little time with your family. If you have a newsworthy story, let me know, until then and until next time, I’m Just Jonathan.
