Just Jonathan: Quick trip home

Jonathan Meyer.
This week I was lucky enough to be in town for a whopping…five hours. While not the longest adventure, I got plenty accomplished in my time in Tama-Toledo.
The purpose of my trip was to attend the first community band rehearsal at the high school. I’ve played in the band since 2018, and these last few years I’ve convinced my mom to play trumpet with me as well. With the band being a bit of a family affair, I can’t pass up on playing even if it means driving a little bit once a week.
When I got to Tama, I needed to get my daily run in. I did miss track practice to come play in this band, it was only fair I got my mileage in. I set off and ran a pretty typical route from my house, through downtown Tama, onto the rec trail, around Toledo Heights, up past the courthouse, around the middle school football field, past the new middle school, crossing the street next to Murph’s. Up the sidewalk by Fareway, looping the high school parking lot, past Kupka’s pond, down the pool hill, jogging past the Cherry Mansion, a left by Casey’s, and back home.
Wow, I’m surprised I listed all that by memory. I spent my 70 minute run enjoying being home. While a ten mile run isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it was very nice to survey what has been happening around town, things that even the newspaper man doesn’t know about.
After getting washed up, my mom and I went to get some tacos at El Cerrito. Our food came out super fast and boy were they delicious. We are so lucky to have quality Mexican food available to us. Let me tell you, Waverly is not as lucky…
We went to rehearsal when we were done. A fun hour and a half of music with mom. If you have any musical ability at all, I’d recommend coming and joining the group! I’ll always be excited to play in the community band, an opportunity to come home, be with my family, and be immersed back in the community, I can’t say no to that!
Until the next community band rehearsal, I’m Just Jonathan.
