STC falls at Knoxville
KNOXVILLE — The South Tama varsity football team traveled to Knoxville on Friday, Sept. 13, to face the Panthers in their third game of the season. The Trojans started with a bang on their opening drive when junior Nick Upah connected with senior Tyrus Clegg for a 54-yard pass on the Trojan’s first play from scrimmage. But their drive was stalled by penalties and a turnover on downs gave the ball to Knoxville.
However, the Trojan defense was up to the task in the first quarter, stopping both Panther possessions on fourth down attempts. But early in the second quarter, Knoxville was able to put the first points on the board after a 10-yard touchdown by running back Rylan Robinson. Following a turnover by the Trojans, the Panthers struck again on their next possession when quarterback Brenden Woolsey found Eli Fuller on a 47-yard touchdown pass. This put the halftime score at 14-0, Knoxville.
In the third quarter, STC’s defense held the score at a two-possession game. The game stayed at 14-0, as all the possessions of both teams ended in punts for the duration of the quarter. But with three minutes gone in the fourth quarter, Knoxville connected on a 27-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 21-0. Over the final eight minutes of the game, Knoxville was able to tack on fifteen more points. The Trojans scored late in the game when Clegg ran for a 21-yard touchdown. This put the final score at 36-6 for a Knoxville win.
South Tama’s (0-3) next game comes during Homecoming week on Friday. They will face Center-Point Urbana at 7:30 p.m. at the South Tama High School Stadium.
