Following their impressive championship at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Dec. 21, the South Tama girls wrestling team has earned a #7 state ranking in class 2A. The rankings were released by IAwrestle on Friday, Dec. 27.

The state of Iowa has two classes in girls wrestling for the 2024-2025 school year, 1A and 2A, and the Trojans are classified with many schools that are traditionally larger. At the top of the 2A rankings are schools such as: Cedar Falls (#1), Ankeny (#3), and Southeast Polk (#5). It is an impressive rank for STC, who were placed just above Mason City (#8), Spencer (#9) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (#10).

In addition, six Trojans find themselves ranked individually in the latest polls. Junior Autumn Elsbury leads the way as the current #1 ranked wrestler in 2A at 170-pounds. She is followed by sophomore Kinley Jimenez, who finds herself as the #5 ranked wrestler at 235-pounds. A pair of Trojans are ranked #7 in their weight class, including sophomore Paisley Bro (145-pounds) and senior Abigail Chyma (155-pounds). Sophomore Livia Smith (#10, 100-pounds) and sophomore Brooklyn Mitchell (#11, 130-pounds) round out the current rankings for STC.

After a break for the Holiday Season, up next for the girls wrestling team is a trip to the BGM invite on Saturday, Jan. 4. This will be followed by the next opportunity to watch the team at home — duals against Solon and Marion at the STC High School Gym on Thursday, Jan. 9.
